We don’t know very many specifics about the early life of Jesus Christ. We have the Biblical account of His birth, but His full-time ministry didn’t start until He was 30 years old. As a Christian parent who looks to the Bible for wisdom and examples of what-to-do and not-to-do, this lack of detail about [...]

Whodathunkit? It’s just amazing where the internet can take you, and how I ended up reading this article from The New York Times Magazine from November of 2007 I am not sure, but hey- I got a kick out of it, and thought I’d share.
Many of us grew up watching edutainment like Sesame Street [...]

There are many noble intentions and understandable concerns when it comes to children in our society. After all, they are vulnerable and innocent. Their minds and bodies are being influenced and shaped by their upbringing and environmental factors. Their futures depend on the quality of their childhood.
But, boys, and girls, how far are we going [...]

While listening to the local news/talk radio station throughout the day, I hear commercials repeating this theme with minor variations:
“You deserve it”
“You’re worth it”
“Don’t be left out”
“You need this”
But [...]

Isn’t that a normal failing of human nature? We want a silver bullet, a fairy godmother, a purple pill to somehow make all the difference in our lives. If we just had more money, more time, this gizmo, that program- THEN an avalanche of success and understanding would be triggered to bury us in happiness.
It [...]

The authors of the book Packaging Girlhood, Sharon Lamb, Ed.D. and Lyn Mikel Brown, Ed.D., are asking for some input on a new project. They have a blog called Packaging Girlhood, but they are turning their attention to “the ways boyhood is marketed and sold to boys through media of all kinds”.
From their blog:
…we need [...]

As a sort of continuation of my last blog post, I’d like to delve more into the subject of a parental rights amendment and the UNCRC. BTW, if you’d like to read more perspectives on the subject, check out Dana’s blog at Principled Discovery.
Our rights as Americans are not granted to us in the Constitution. [...]

The conflict I see brewing isn’t about the best educational methodologies, socialization, standardized tests, how to define home education, or even PCs vs. Macs. What I perceive is that we are coming to a crossroads where it will be decided exactly what role parents should play in the lives of their children, and what was [...]

I am always on the lookout for websites and blogs that have good information about home education and child safety issues, so when I ran across Imaginif, I knew I had to share it.
This article in particular caught my eye- Home Education and Personal Safety. It is directed at parents with kids in school, but [...]

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” (Edmund Burke)
Sounds good, but society appears more and more to deny the concept of evil, and if there is no such thing as wickedness, then it is no great virtue to be good. Our culture attempts to present itself as [...]

One of the fundamentals of the Christian faith is personal liberty. Most folks don’t understand that, because they have a mental picture of Christianity as being about arbitrary and stringent rules. Many have only a passing and passive knowledge of what the Bible teaches. They have vague ideas of sin, Jesus Christ, Hell, Heaven- but don’t [...]

I am reading Secrets Can Be Murder by Jane Velez-Mitchell, a book probing several high profile murder cases, from Andrea Yates to Scott Peterson. She makes some great observations, but then comes to what IMO are bizarre conclusions. Chapter 3 focuses on mothers who murdered their children. On page 58, she expresses her concern about what [...]

I have always said that as a mother, my intent was to work myself out of a job. I want to equip my children to become Godly, responsible, contributing adults. I have 18 years to effectively accomplish this, and maybe a year or two after that- but I want my children to be able to [...]

I know I just started this blog, but I have something important I need to do. My firstborn son, who is in the Army and slated to go to Iraq in February, is having some personal struggles right now- making decisions at 19 years old that will affect the rest of his life.
I have decided [...]
